3 Areas to Give Yourself Grace

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

What if you had Grace-Vision? I love this visual.

I was reading my devotional, Jesus Calling, on June 1 and they talked about learning to see yourself and others through Grace-Vision.

Because when you look thru the eyes of grace you can focus on what is good and right instead of what is bad and wrong.

What a different world this would be if everyone used Grace-Vision!

Let’s start with you! What if you looked at yourself with Grace-Vision?

Here are three areas you could use Grace-Vision.

Listen in or read on below so you have ways to have a little more Grace-Vision with yourself.

Your Words Matter.

Watch the words you say about yourself. Did you know your body and brain can hear you?

If you say to your friend, “I’m so fat and ugly. I’ll never lose weight.” Your body and brain just heard you. They believe you and you just insulted them?

Why would your mind and body find ways to lose weight when you told them it would never happen?

Why would you tell yourself this? Would you ever tell your child or best friend they were fat, ugly and would never lose weight? I doubt it!

You know how damaging this would be to them. Imagine how damaging it is to you.

What if you gave yourself some grace and focused on the things you are doing well?

What if you thanked your body for all that it does for you?

  • Thank you legs and feet for always getting me where I want to go.

  • Thank you brain for helping me solve so many situations today.

  • Thank you eyes for being able to see that beautiful sunset.

Your Thoughts Matter.

Your thoughts really matter too!

According to the National Science Foundation, an average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those, 80% are negative and 95% are repetitive thoughts.

That means we have about 10,000 to 48,000 negative thoughts a day. Of those negative thoughts about 9,500 to 45,000 are the same negative thoughts repeating like a recording and swirling around in our head.

We have the power to choose what we want to believe and what we want to think.

What if when a negative thought pops in our head we turn it upside down and ask “What do I want instead? What do I want to believe instead?”

Then you have the choice to believe and think THAT instead!

Your Beliefs Matter.

Beliefs are different from thoughts. They may limit us from achieving goals.

Beliefs may have been created from within us, usually by circumstances or events, from when we were very young. Beliefs can also be created by our environment from a toxic home, social or work stressors.

These beliefs may or may not be true but they are what we believe. And that is not wrong or bad. But they may be limiting us from accomplishing the very things we really want.

Beliefs can distort reality. What you believe to be true, becomes true everywhere you look confirming your beliefs must be true. Even if they are not.

Some examples of limiting beliefs:

  • It is too difficult to change my lifestyle, lose weight, make money, etc.

  • I have failed before, so I will fail again.

  • I am not worthy to have …

  • I don’t deserve to have …

If you hear something enough times, if you think or believe something enough times, then you will believe it to be true and then you will see it everywhere.

This can work both positively or negatively for you.

So, what do you want to believe? Who do you want to become?
